Basic Equipment Setup (Standard)

For basic online piano lessons, using a laptop or an iPad is perfectly acceptable.  Keep in mind you're limited to a single point of view and the audio quality is going to be dependent on the internal microphones of these devices.

The basic elements required for virtual lessons:

  • A devise that has video and audio capabilities

  • Internet connection

  • Video conferencing program

    • Zoom (This is the preferred program of Spiritoso - the quality of the audio streaming is important for a fulfilling experience)

    • Skype (Alternative when required)

    • FaceTime (Alternative when required)

Device positioning:

  • We recommend that you position your device about 2 - 3 feet away from the piano and elevated.

  • If your camera source is too low, it will be hard to distinguish where those hands and fingers are relative to the keys.  â€‹

Intermediate Equipment Setup (Pursuing Performers)

The common device has a single point of view, and the audio quality is dependent on the device microphone.

  • You can improve sound quality somewhat by adding a USB microphone to your device.

  • A multi-cameras setup can be much more effective for online piano lessons.  An additional overhead camera focused on the piano keys explaining how to finger the different notes and passages and the instructor can see your technique in a whole new and actually a personal way.
